                                                       Palm Sunday

Today, it is common for people to move a house, to move from city to city or even one country to another.  The Gospels describe Jesus as frequently on the move, and it was journey that led him to Jerusalem where he was initially received in triumph, only to be led a few days later to his death on Calvary.  It was a journey of obedience to his Father's will, a journey of love for all mankind.  Holy Week gives us an opportunity to walk more closely with Jesus.

The Liturgy of the Holy Week offers us a chance of reflecting on the greatness of God's love for us.  When Jesus sits down to eat the Last Supper with his disciples, he gives himself to us as food for our journey through life.  When he washes their feet - it is an example of service to others.  On Good Friday, he reveals the depth of his divine love, as he pours out his life's blood for us.  Reflecting on these events, is an opportunity for us to examine our response to so great a love, so great a forgiveness.

The Liturgy of these days is not simply an exercise in recalling past events.  We share, here and now, in those redeeming actions of Christ.  Our vocations as Christians is to share in the Paschal mystery of Christ: in his death and resurrection.  In doing this, the negative aspects of our lives take a new meaning: our daily frustrations, fears and loneliness, our temptations and our failures - these are all ways we share in the death of Jesus.  And the positive aspects of life als take new meaning: our family and friends, our health, our joys and successes - these become our sharing in the resurrection joy of the risen Lord.  In this way every aspect of our lives is joined to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
